The W Academy

The W Academy operates as a community amatuer sports club and the ethos is to provide a safe, secure and professional environment for all football players no matter their ability. The Academy aims to provide the highest quality football coaching to all age groups, both male and female.

DEVELOPMENT BEFORE WINNING

The W Academy team consists of current and ex professional footballers and an experienced number of business professionals. Through the years the Academy (formerly Mearns United), have been providing football training, development and coaching to over 2000 young children, playing a vital role in improving their confidence, enhancing their fitness and generally improving their well-being. To date, the team have already been responsible for helping over one hundred children transition to the Pro Youth football system in Scotland. We also aim to use ex-professionals who can help pass on knowledge to parents and volunteers who can in turn help others.

We have already provided a pathway for young players with over 20 prospects in the Rangers and Celtic academy system. The team recently congratulated a player on signing a six year contract with Celtic with another making the first team at Aberdeen F.C.

Our philosophy is to develop intelligent all round technically gifted players of the future by creating a positive environment to let them flourish

The W academy is one of Scotlands leading grassroots academies for developing young players and progressing to professional youth football. The success of the academy since its inception in 1993 has seen over 150 kids graduate and move on to professional clubs in Scotland, Spain and England
